We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people who navigate by keyboard, use a screen reader, need larger text, or find motion uncomfortable. Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
What we have done
- Every colour pair in the design was checked for contrast before it was used. Body text, secondary text, links and buttons all meet or exceed the AA threshold.
- The whole site works by keyboard, including the six-step property form. Focus is always visible — we never remove the focus ring.
- Form fields have real labels, and errors say what went wrong and how to fix it rather than just turning red.
- Errors are never signalled by colour alone. There is always an icon and a message as well.
- The one animation on the site — the parcel diagram drawing itself in — is disabled automatically if your system asks for reduced motion.
- The parcel diagram carries a written description, so a screen reader conveys what it shows rather than announcing “graphic”.
- The site is built from semantic HTML with one main heading per page, and it works down to a 360-pixel-wide screen.
- The property form works with JavaScript switched off.
Known limitations
Stating these honestly is more useful than claiming perfection:
- PDF reports we email are not yet fully tagged for screen readers. If you need a report in an accessible format, ask and we will send it as plain text or a structured document at no extra charge.
- Some bylaw documents we link to are hosted by municipalities and are outside our control. Many are scanned images without text layers. If you hit one you cannot read, tell us and we will send you the relevant text.
- The parcel diagram conveys its meaning through a written description rather than through the drawing itself.
Tell us if something does not work
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please contact us and say what happened and what you were trying to do. We aim to reply within two business days and to fix genuine barriers rather than explain them away.
If you need the information on a page in another format — large print, plain text, or read aloud over the phone — ask. There is no charge and you do not need to justify the request.
How we test
Automated checks run against the design tokens and markup. Keyboard navigation and screen reader behaviour on the form are checked by hand before release. This statement is reviewed whenever the site changes materially, and at least once a year.
